New Spain Travel Rules For Visitors

As of 2nd December 2024, British travellers heading to Spain will need to provide more personal information than ever before. The goal is to crackdown on organised crime.
This includes all of Spain, including Spanish islands.

The new law which is called Royal Decree 933/2021, takes effect from 2 December 2024.
You will have to provide extra information when you check into accommodation such as hotels, hostels, campsites and Airbnb’s, or if you hire a car. This is not optional. The information will be passed onto the Ministry of the Interior.
This is now required by law, or the accommodation/car rental company will face hefty fines up to €30,000.

Normally you just provide your passport at check-in, but now you must provide much more personal information.

If you are aged over 14, you will need to provide the following personal information from 2nd December 2024:

  • Full name
  • Nationality
  • Gender
  • Passport number
  • Date of birth
  • Home address
  • Phone number
  • Email address

There are also other requirements for Spain too.
Since 2022, you also have to have enough money to cover your stay. As of 2024, you should have at least €114 per day. For stays over 9 nights, you need a minimum of €1021 money available in total. Proof of this can include cash, travellers checks, credit card or bank statement. So you could also be asked to provide proof that you have enough money for your stay.
You also need proof if asked, of a return or onward travel ticket from Spain.

On top of all this, from 2025 you will also need to apply for an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) at a small cost for entry into the EU.
